Wellness Care
The Importance of Wellness & Preventative Care
Many long term illnesses in cats can be prevented. From chronic rhinitis due to herpes virus to oral and dental disease due to calicivirus, and even cancer due to feline leukemia virus. We partner with you to make a customized prevention plan for your cat.
If caught early and managed well; most cats will thrive for years with chronic illnesses. Catching disease early requires regular exams, twice a year for seniors, and routine lab work.
We place such a strong emphasis on routine wellness exams and preventative care because we want you to have many happy, healthy years with your cat!
Prevention
Vaccinations are the core of preventative care and important throughout your cats life. They prevent chronic diseases like herpes, and calicivirus, which can cause life-long illness for your cat. We understand the different needs of indoor and outdoor cats. Our routine vaccination recommendations follow the gold standards set forth in the 2020 AAHA/AAFP Feline Vaccination Guidelines. We use PureVax vaccines to decrease the likelihood of vaccine reactions and vaccine induced sarcomas.
Early Detection
Regular visits (once or twice a year) allow us to monitor your cat’s health, and to practice preventative measures to protect kitty against risks. Early detection means we are monitoring for changes to alert us to potential medical concerns, including monitoring blood work and urinalysis. Remember your kitty is good at hiding illness. Early detection allows us to address medical concerns before they become more serious (and costly). With early detection and treatment most cats facing disease can be kept healthy and happy for years.
